Do You Need A Private Investigator For Your Colorado Divorce Case?

Are you wondering why you might need a private investigator for your divorce in Colorado? Hi, I’m Marie Drake of The Drake Law Firm, and today, I’m going to talk to you about a couple of reasons you may want to hire a private investigator.
Private investigators, who I’m going to call PIs in this video, generally are hired for missing persons, criminal investigations, that sort of thing, and remember, Colorado is a no fault state, so a private investigator isn’t going to go find out if you have a girlfriend or your spouse has a boyfriend or whatever. Nobody cares who you’re sleeping with, least of all the judge, and probably not me, so remember that Colorado is a no fault state, but you might need a PI for the exception to that rule. The exception to the rule of no fault in Colorado in divorces is an economic fault, and why might there be economic fault? Well, if you or your spouse are taking the girlfriend or boyfriend to the Maldives for a first class, five star vacation and spending the kids college money to do so, that could be considered economic fault. It certainly might be a waste of money, but at any rate, it’s something to bring up in a divorce, and if you don’t know that it’s going on, but you suspect it’s going on, that might be the main reason to hire a private investigator.
The other reason you might want to hire a private investigator is to make sure that your spouse’s financial disclosures are verified. In Colorado, in order to approve a settlement, or to make a decision at trial, both parties have to be completely transparent with their financial situation and their disclosures. If you suspect cash is missing, accounts have been liquidated, money’s been wired to crypto wallet, whatever it is, you may need if it’s missing and that spouse won’t disclose where it went, you might need to hire a private investigator to trace it, so that would be the other reason to do that.
