Coping With Divorce

Get the help you need!

Divorce can be stressful and take a toll on mental health. Self-care is extra important during this difficult time. The healing process looks different for everyone. Here are some ways to unwind and ease your stress.

Go to Therapy or Join a Support Group

It is important to acknowledge the tough feelings you may experience after divorce. A therapist can provide a great listening ear and teach you helpful coping mechanisms to work through the stress or anxiety you may be feeling.  A support group can provide you with a community of others and the feeling that you are not alone. It is a safe space to share your story and feelings with others who are understanding and accepting. There are many local support groups in Colorado and virtually that can connect with.

Exercise or Try Meditation

Exercise is a great way to reduce stress and take some time to stop thinking. There are many forms of exercise. Some examples include running, cycling, a workout class, and boxing. This is a great time to burn off some steam and take some time for yourself. Meditation is another great option. There are many helpful apps and YouTube videos that can guide you through meditation if you do not know where to begin. Meditation can be very beneficial for relieving stress, feeling more grounded, and finding a calm sense of happiness.

Start a New Hobby

Rediscover yourself and your interests. During marriage, it can be hard to find time for yourself and your passions. This is the perfect time to focus on yourself and what brings you joy. Your new hobby can be something you used to love or something completely new. It is never too late to discover yourself. Some examples are painting, hiking, baking, yoga, volunteering, gardening, traveling, and photography.
